A ‘MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL’ will take place on the weekend of 4 and 5 July.
We are looking for artisans/traders
who would like to exhibit at our medieval market.

Woodwork, leatherwork
Costumes and textile accessories
Decorative objects inspired by the Middle Ages
Medieval speciality food trucks, crêpe makers

This historic monument from the 15th century will open its doors
A preview will take place on the same date at 3:00 pm.
Discover this castle located on the borders of Saintonge in the charming village of Neuvicq-le-Château, which was the successive property of several lords of high nobility including, in the 17th century, the Marquis de Montespan.
Opening calendar
Open from 2pm to 6pm:
– from 11 April to 21 June, every weekend, public holidays and 15 May;
– from 27 June to 6 September, every day;
– from 12 to 27 September, every weekend.
What you can see and do…
Access to the exterior of the castle is completely free. You can therefore walk all around the building while admiring its architecture. You can also:
A tour of the castle will allow you to discover:
– the kitchen, its 15th-century fireplace, and access to an ancient underground passage;
– the reception room called the « Wooden Room, » you’ll see why…;
– the Louis XIII-style bedroom where you will be welcomed by Marquis Jean-Jacques de Goth, lord of the place from 1611 to 1679;
– the art exhibition hall;
– a model of a fortified castle, made of 33,000 small stones;
– the « Feudal Moat » room, where the origins of fortified castles are explained;
– the music room, where a charming pianist plays melodious notes;
– a boudoir, where you’ll meet Madame Paulte, wife of
Noël-Bertrand de la Laurencie and mother of the last lord of Neuvicq;
– the Treasure Room atop a turret;
– the attic, with its roof structure shaped like an upside-down boat hull.
But that’s not all!!!
If you have a smartphone or tablet, you can access the app that allows you to visit the château in virtual reality (*). Throughout the tour, you’ll discover anecdotes and mini-games, and search for clues that will allow you to challenge the Marquis de Montespan himself to a card game.
This option is available as a complement to the self-guided individual tour, upon payment of the fee (see the Tours and Prices section below). You will also be given a printed document to complete your visit.

A map showing points of interest can be given to you upon request and free of charge at the castle reception or at the town hall secretariat.

Self-guided individual tour: with a printed document or audio guide (subject to availability). Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours.

The Neuvicq-le-Château castle is a partner of « Charentes Tourisme – Mission Vals de Saintonge » and « Camping-Car Park » which offer you a reduction of €1.00 upon presentation of the Val’Idées card from Charentes Tourisme Mission Vals de Saintonge or the Pass’Etapes from Camping-Car Park.
Reminder: In addition to this tour, you can explore the castle in Virtual Reality using a smartphone or tablet.
